Floor Barre is an exercise technique that ballet dancers use to improve their posture, technique, and strengthen their core abdominal muscles through resistance exercises. The name Floor Barre describes the modified traditional barre exercises that are performed with the student’s back on the floor rather than standing at the barre.
Pilates is a system of exercises designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture, and to enhance mental awareness of the movements of one’s body.
Pilates emphasizes use of the abdominals, lower back, hip and thigh muscles. For most dancers, mastering the ability to use their transverse abdominals and reducing the stress on the hip flexors proves to be invaluable in preventing injury and improving their dance technique. Ballet Elite instructors practice classical Pilates mat work in combination with the therapeutic emphasis of Polestar Pilates, where our instructors received their certifications.
